The event coincides with the annual Thames Draw-Off, when the Port of London Authority lowers the water level between Richmond Lock and Teddington Lock to its natural low-tide level for essential maintenance and inspection. This rare event creates a striking sight as the river appears to “drain,” revealing the riverbed for repairs, sediment clearing, and ecological study — the perfect opportunity to help protect local wildlife and keep our river clean.
