Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) theatre review

Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) is possibly the most hilarious, clever, witty, entertaining and heartwarming show I’ve seen to date.

Performed by just two talented actor and actresses, this modern rom com is London’s hottest must-see show – and I’ll be telling anyone and everyone to get tickets.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

The British musical has been extended by a further seven weeks and is now booking until August 31 instead of July 14 as previously announced.

I’m telling you, that’s a blessing, because as many people as possible need to go and be made to laugh until they cry and smile until their cheeks hurt.

Sam Tutty plays Dougal and Dujonna Gift plays Robin, and I think they’re my two new favourite people.

Like Bonnie and Clyde, Ant and Dec, they pair work so incredibly well together and are so perfectly suited it hurts.

Richmond and Twickenham Times:

Dougal the sweet, loveable British mummy’s boy with a zest for life, admirable confidence and an infectious happiness, meets Robin, the sassy, overworked, unappreciated New Yorker who needs to be shown that she deserves the world.

The pair meet over the wedding of the dad Dougal has never known, and the bride, Robin’s sister.

The plot, the singing, the chemistry, the acting – it all just works, and my audience was howling, clapping, crying, screaming, standing up and loving every second of it.

To get that on a Tuesday night in London is nothing short of great.

The show is directed by Tim Jackson, written by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan and designed by Soutra Gilmour, with production by Tim Johanson Productions, Glass Half Full Productions and Jamie Wilson Productions.

The music has clocked up millions of listens on streaming platforms, and the playlist is so catchy that you’ll want to stream it, learn it, and sing it in the shower.

The full creative team includes Director and Choreographer Tim Jackson; Designer Soutra Gilmour; Lighting Designer Jack Knowles; Sound Designer Tony Gayle; Orchestration by Lux Pyramid; Casting Director Julia Horan CDG and Associate Director Claira Vaughan.

Sam’s theatre work includes the role of Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen (Noël Coward Theatre) for which he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical and Once on this Island (British Theatre Academy/Southwark Playhouse). For film, his work includes Four Minute Warning and Romeo & Juliet, and for television, Hollyoaks.

Robin’s theatre work includes the multi-Olivier Award-winning, smash hit musical Hamilton (Victoria Palace Theatre), Caroline or Change (Playhouse Theatre) and Motown: The Musical (Shaftesbury Theatre). Her film work includes the upcoming Disney’s Snow White opposite Rachel Zegler.

If you want to laugh, feel good, and be transported to the streets of New York for the evening, get your tickets while you can.
