Help Warm Up the Future of 3rd Whitton Scouts

For many young people in Whitton, the scout hut is more than just a building—it’s a place to meet new friends outside of school, build confidence, and develop skills that will last a lifetime.

3rd Whitton Scout Group was founded in 1938 to offer boys from St. Edmund’s Catholic Church in Whitton a rich and varied programme of Scouting skills and adventures. While the group retains close links with the parish and school, it warmly welcomes girls and boys of all backgrounds and faiths, making it a diverse and inclusive community.

Our aim is to create an environment where young members can reach their full potential. With a wide range of activities designed for all ages, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy. For older Scouts aged 14 to 18, we also run the Edmund Hillary Explorer Unit, one of 12 Explorer Units in the Richmond upon Thames District.

Over the years, the group has thrived and grown, supporting generations of young people to learn, explore, and build friendships through Scouting.

Right now, the Scout hut faces a challenge. The heating system, which is nearly 30 years old, has become unreliable, making it difficult to keep the space comfortable during colder months. Before installing a new system, essential building work is needed to prepare the hut. The group also plans to make the building more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly, creating a sustainable space for the future.

One parent shared:

“Scouts has been a wonderful place for my child to make friends, gain confidence, and learn new skills outside of school. It’s important the hut remains a welcoming and comfortable space for all the young people who use it.”

The 3rd Whitton Scouts are reaching out to the whole community—including individuals, local businesses, and organisations—for support to help make the hut a warmer, greener space for all. Whether through donations, volunteering, or sponsorship, every contribution counts.
